WordPress Security & Maintenance for your Website
The world wide web isn’t what it used to be. When I first started making wordpress websites, security wasn’t such an issue, at least to my knowledge. I have recently read so much about the importance of having a security plugin on your website to keep it from being hacked into, that I feel a responsibility to you, my clients, to offer a service to keep your website secure. See below for details.
There are a few key factors in a basic plan of securing a website. I have studied a lot about important strategies and plugins to do the job. I have decided to use the free iThemes Security plugin. The other important action necessary for a secure site is regular updating of the wordpress core, plugins and PHP version.
Why do you need to upgrade your PHP version? Unsupported versions of PHP are dangerous due to the fact that they no longer have security updates and are exposed to unpatched security vulnerabilities.
See screenshot below and check out this website for details.
Here is what the iThemes plugin claims:
iThemes Security Is The #1 WordPress Security Plugin
iThemes Security gives you over 30+ ways to secure and protect your WordPress site. On average, 30,000 new websites are hacked each day. WordPress sites can be an easy target for attacks because of plugin vulnerabilities, weak passwords and obsolete software.
Most WordPress admins don’t know they’re vulnerable, but iThemes Security works to lock down WordPress, fix common holes, stop automated attacks and strengthen user credentials. With advanced features for experienced users, our WordPress security plugin can help harden WordPress.
iThemes Brute Force Attack Protection Network
iThemes Security takes brute force attack protection to the next level by banning users who have tried to break into other sites from breaking into yours. The iThemes Brute Force Attack Protection Network will automatically report IP addresses of failed login attempts and will block them for a length of time necessary to protect your site based on the number of sites that have seen a similar attack.
You can read more on the plugin site here.
For the installation of the iThemes security plugin and continued monitoring plus updating the wordpress core, PHP version and all plugins the price is $60 payable twice annually by subscription with PayPal. Click the button below.
As I am reviewing all of my client websites, I see that many of the sites need updates for the wordpress core, plugins and the PHP version (see the reasons above). I will offer this service as a yearly subscription for $60. This does not include installing and monitoring a security plugin. Some of your websites have very infrequent changes or none at all. It is still a good idea to check in on them once in a while to update plugins and the PHP version.
I would encourage you to invest in yourself and the security of your website by regular maintenance. I finally have time while I am on extended “shelter in place” in Peru to reach out to you with this offer. I have your well-being in mind. A hacked site is not a pretty thing. And having your site perform faster is a plus. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
Does your website still say “not secure?” I can install a free “Let’s Encrypt” SSL certificate so that message will go away. Here is a post that explains this. Even if a website has an SSL certificate this does not protect it from being hacked. So a website should have a security plugin such as iThemes as well as an SSL certificate. $30 for the installation.
